Learn how to locate and identify fossils on famed Lake Texoma, as well as state laws and regulations protecting such valuable resources. Hikers are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes, bring water and a hiking stick.   Meet at Eisenhower Interpretive Trailhead.

]]> No publisher kmarks Eisenhower SP Go Fish! fishing classes, derbies & more 2011-12-22T19:56:14Z Event Ike’s Hike and Bike Ride http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/calendar/ike2019s-hike-and-bike-ride Come hike a new section of trail at Eisenhower State Park at 8:30 am with the Park Superintendent.  He will lead a three mile hike into what will soon become a section of the park’s Chinquapin Ridge ATV Trail.  These trails are in their initial stage of development so you’ll be the first to see this unique area.  The hike is open to all who can handle strenuous hiking with steep elevation.  After the hike, there will be an opportunity to bike the park trails at 10:30 am with a volunteer who can show you all sections of the four mile hike & bike trail.  The bike ride is open to serious off road bike riders who can handle a strenuous bike ride.  Bring water, appropriate clothing, and hiking and biking gear; but no pets or small children.  No reservations are needed and no fees apply other than the standard park entrance fees. Both the hike and bike ride will begin from the Elm Point Day Use Area.

Adults and youth, ages 13+, can learn the basics of fly-fishing through fun, hands-on activities. All equipment provided or bring your own.  Hot dog lunch provided.  After lunch the class participants will have an opportunity to go as a group to a designated site in the park and try their hand at catching a fish on a fly rod. No license necessary while fishing in the park.

Adults must accompany children.  Bring sun protection and water.  Registration start time is 9:00 A.M., Closing and awards ceremony at 3 P.M.

In addition to the fly fishing activities the park will have a tank stocked with 500 catfish for any and all participants to fish in.

  • Caching in on State Park Trails: Trail adventure and exploration through GPS and Geo-caching
  • Fire Building and Outdoor Cooking Tips: How to safely build fires and cook on open flames / grills (conditions permitting)
  • Experience the natural wonders at night: Celebrating nature’s natural night noises at  State Parks


Sunday

  • Coffee and chat with a Park Ranger: Q&A – Learn more about parks and conservation
  • Know Before You Go ... Breaking Camp and Leaving no Trace of your stay

 

Additonal Site Specific Activities

  • Created Careful Kayakers: Learn the basics of kayaking and set out on the water for a leisurely paddle 

  • Fossil Hike: Discover the unique natural history of the park through an exciting fossil hike  

 

Additional Curriculum

  • State Park Junior Ranger Certification Programs – Targeted Audience: 5-12 years of age
  • Environmentally-friendly program which adopts and teaches the 'Leave No Trace' philosophy and practices
  • Additional programs specifically for use and enjoyment of a state park
