Abundant wildlife

Wildlife in the park includes white-tailed deer, raccoons, squirrels, foxes and beavers. A wide variety of birds also live here.

A large portion of the park floods during wet periods, providing excellent habitat for waterfowl and other types of aquatic wildlife.

Lush plant life

Ample rainfall supports a wide diversity of plants in the park.

Post oak, hickory, elm, sweetgum and pecan create a mosaic of trees in the woodlands. American beautyberry, dogwood, sassafras, yaupon, hawthorn, greenbriar and Alabama supplejack contribute to the mosaic by filling in under the trees.

Patches of Savannah grasslands occur throughout the park. Look for little bluestem, Indiangrass, purpletop, switchgrass and stands of the rare Centerville Brazos mint plant.
