On major holidays, Government Canyon will remain open mid-week to accommodate day users. During 2013, New opening holiday dates are: January 1st – 3rd (New Years week), March 12th – 14th (Spring Break week), June 19th (Emancipation Day holiday), July 4th (Independence Day holiday), November 26th – 28th (Thanksgiving week – Visitor Center closed Thanksgiving day), December 24th – 26th (Christmas week – Visitor Center closed Christmas day).
The Protected Habitat Area trails are open annually September through February. All other trails are open all year. All pets and domesticated animals are restricted to the front country trails.
Contact the natural area for more information prior to arrival, as trails may be closed due to poor conditions or weather.
