Get it on your mind, horse women. This will be the 4th annual Cowgirl Round-up and Showdeo held at the park. At high noon women on horseback will line up in the arena for a panoramic photo. The previous three years we have had almost 70 and this year we want a hundred. All are welcome to this free event showcasing women and their horses. Come share your story and talents and join in on the fun. Be sure and mark Sunday January 1^st, 2012 on your calendar. Current coggins required to bring your horse into the park. Free to the Public! Heart of the Hills Endurance Ride

March 2nd thru March 4th. Heart of the Hills Equestrian Endurance Ride is a 50 mile and 25 mile endurance benefit ride. Camp is at Hill Country SNA Chapa Group Area. Trail Ride for Brighter Days Horse Refuge

On Saturday, May 5th there will be a very unique benefit trail ride to raise much needed funds to support the Brighter Days Horse Refuge. Leanne Beauxbeannes and Jeanne B of Desert Hearts Cowgirl Club are sponsoring the ride and are inviting the other guest ranches in the area to participate by opening their trails or providing some of their western meals.

The ride will start at nine at the scenic 5000 acre Hill Country State Natural Area, ten miles west of Bandera. Then we’ll ride to the neighboring dude ranches such as the Rancho Cortez, and the Silver Spur for lunch and then ride to the Running R and back to the HCSNA at Chapa’s Group Camp for Kelly Scott’s Chuckwagon supper, sponsored by Jeanne Parker of Frontier Town in Bandera. Desserts needed. Auction after ride and before supper.

Hill Country SNA Nature Hike

Come walk with a ranger over the hills and through the woods for fresh air, beautiful views and good exercise. The climbs and pace will be moderate with stops along the way to identify the trees, shrubs, vines and wildflowers. A short lesson in local geology will be included.

Ranch Heritage Day

Free Fun Family Event featuring Ranch skills, Music and stories, antique tractors, Chuck wagon cooking, Branding Irons, Horses and cattle, Working dogs with sheep and goats, cover wagon rides and a giant rocking horse Little Wrangler Rodeo. Held at Hill Country State Natural Area on the third Saturday of October from 11 AM until 4 PM. Dress western if you can and bring a chair. Sponsored by our Friends’ Group HC-SNAP. An early morning trail ride for those who bring their horses. Free camping Saturday night with a play day on Sunday. No admission fees charged. Find us at 10600 Bandera Creek Road which is 10 miles West of Bandera.-Accessible for the mobility, visually and hearing impaired.

National Trails Day: Where the West Begins

Hill Country State Natural Area is offering a Wagon Trail Ride on June 1st at 9AM. A covered wagon drawn by four horses and carrying up to 12 passengers will pass by the historic Davenport house and barns and down trail 2 and all the way to the group lodge. The wagon sides will be rolled up for viewing and should afford some shade to the passengers. A cultural and natural interpretive program along the way will be presented by Ranger Leanne Beauxbeannes. The cost will be a suggested donation of $20 to HC-SNAP, our friends group, to cover the cost of hiring the driver and his rig. Advanced reservations are required on a first come first-served basis. All riders with their own horses are welcome to accompany the wagon for a small donation. Dress for weather and bring drinking water.
