<p>Join a park ranger for a
First Day Hike on the Texas Oak Trail at Lake Brownwood
  State Park.
Newly renovated by an Americorps Trail Crew, the trail follows the lake shore
and provides great views of Lake Brownwood.
Other parts of the trail highlight the park’s unique rock features.&nbsp; This one-mile trail is easy with some
moderate climbs and is suitable for families. May want to bring a hiking stick,
sturdy shoes and drinking water. &nbsp;Meet at park headquarters.</p>

    <content:encoded xmlns:content="http://purl.org/rss/1.0/modules/content/"><![CDATA[<p>Everyone is welcome to meet a park ranger at the trailhead of the Texas Oak trail for a moderate difficulty hike of 1.5 miles to observe plants and wildlife and catch some great views of Lake Brownwood. You can also choose to join a ranger at the pavilion next to the Group Recreation Hall and hike the Lakeside Trail (easy to moderate and approx. 1mi.) showcasing the CCC&rsquo;s development of our rustic and beautiful park. Bring plenty of water, sturdy shoes, binoculars, cameras and your favorite person to hike with as these hikes are open to anyone.</p>

We will be having a competition for best decorated campsite. The winner will get their campsite fees waived for the evening. For visitors and overnight guests, at 7 p.m. there will be a campfire talk with a park ranger and Santa will make an appearance. Kids can have their photos taken on Santa&rsquo;s lap and then decorate sugar cookies provided by the Fiends of Lake Brownwood. Hot chocolate will also be provided. Lake Brownwood State Park will be hosting one of many 1<sup>st</sup> Day Hikes across the nation. Check in at the park headquarters at 2:00 pm with good sturdy hiking shoes and warm clothes. &nbsp;Park ranger will lead a 1.5 mile, moderate difficulty hike down the Texas Oak Trail. We may add more options for places to hike and/or difficulties of the hike if we have a large enough crowd. No pets please. $4 park entry fees per person are required.</p>
