Join us for a 2 ½ -mile hike
through one of the most unique ecosystems of southeast Central
Texas. Here, a large forest of dwarf palmetto plants converges
with the Post Oak terrain found further to the East. Two-hour hike covers
mostly easy terrain, with improved surfaces on many trails throughout the park.
Participants will want to bring sturdy shoes, drinking water and a hiking
stick. Hikers meet at CCC Refectory.

Texas Water safari is a canoe race that starts in San Marcos on the San Marcos river and finishes in Sea Drift Tx. Palmetto is the first check point of the race. The race is 250 miles long and is usually over in three day’s. The race has grown through years, and this year the race is expected to have about 150 participants. That number triples when you count all of the support crews and spectators. Palmetto’s part in the race usually starts around 4:00pm and is over about 11:00 to 12:00pm Saturday night.

This year there is a media production company that wants to film the entire race. This will require additional staffing and hours to support the media production.
