Basic and Intermediate Fly Fishing Class

Learn the basics of fly fishing. Open to adults and children (ages 10 or above) interested in fly fishing. Basic elements of the course will include Fly Casting, Fly Tying, Ecology, Game Laws, Ethics, and Fly Fishing Tactics. Class is limited to 15 participants. Wear comfortable clothing for outdoor activities and bring a sack lunch for the one hour break between classes. The workshop will be held at the Resaca de las Palmas State Park and from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 P.M. for both classes. There is no charge for the workshop; however there is a State Park entrance fee of $4 per person. Preregistration required. Big Bike Bash at Resaca de la Palma

Come rent a bike and explore our park on the safe 3-mile paved loop without worrying about car traffic! Or bring your own bike to explore off-road on our 10 miles of nature trails. The interpretive ranger will guide a 5-mile bike ride around the park while you view animals and learn about the park! You are welcome to take a map and strike out on your own for an exciting adventure. Make sure to bring bug spray, sunscreen, and plenty of water. All ages welcome!

Night Hike

Grab your flashlights and head outdoors under the stars! Discover the nocturnal world of animals with a Ranger. Please call the park to RSVP by 5PM Thursday before the hike. Adults $6. Bird Walk

Come see what all the chirping is about! Join an experienced bird watcher for a morning of viewing beautiful, colorful birds of the valley within our 1200 acre park! Dress comfortably with walking shoes. Bring binoculars, water bottle, hat, and bug spray (binoculars available to rent). Program is free with entry.. Butterfly Walk

The valley has some of the most beautiful butterflies and dragonflies in Texas! Come join us for a walk through the garden and trails to watch and learn about our fluttering friends. Park specialties include Blue Metalmark, Walker’s Metalmark, and Mexican Bluewing butterflies. Open to all ages. Dress comfortably with walking shoes. Jolly Night Hike

Join us for a night of Christmas cheer in the great outdoors! Take a hike on our trail of lights and take a merry hay ride around the park singing Christmas carols. Enjoy hot chocolate and apple cider with Christmas cookies, while we work on festive crafts in the visitor center. We may even get a visit from the green Santa Claus! Event is open to all ages! Winter Texan Day

Pedal the Park

FREE admission between 8am-12pm. Bring your own bike or rent one of ours! (starting at $5, while supplies last). The park will offer guided nature bike trips (all levels). There will be a free drawing for prizes and plenty of kids activities! Healthy booths and classes will be going on throughout the morning. Don't forget to bring a helmet and a reusable water bottle. This event is open to everyone of all ages.

Family Nature Night

Beat the heat this summer and bring your whole family for a special evening in nature. We will have a special indoor presentation followed by a tram ride and short hike into the park looking for nocturnal critters! Please bring comfortable walking shoes, drinking water, and a flashlight for the hike! Presentation themes vary monthly.

Junior Ranger Camp

Get your young explorer out in nature with our third annual Junior Ranger Camp! The camp will run from Tuesday-Thursday from 8:00 a.m. - 12 noon and Friday night 7:00-9:00 p.m. Snacks and t-shirt will be provided. $70 per week per child (registration required). Please call or email for details about registration! Activities include archery, geocaching, biking and a special night hike for the whole family!
