<p>Join us for our
annual butchering and curing weekend, where we will be butchering two of our
very own farm raised Ossabaw Island Hogs on Saturday then beginning the curing
process on Sunday. Butchering livestock was a very necessary way of life in the
mid-19th century. Pork has been preserved by drying, salting and smoking for
centuries. There are different varieties of curing, but they all serve the
purpose of preserving it to eat later. This program will be ongoing, so steps
will not be repeated once the resources have been used up. Accessible for the
mobility impaired. Standard daily admission fees apply - $5 adults and senior
citizens, $3 students, free for Texas State Park Pass holders and those 6 years

will be surprised to learn of the many similarities between modern hunting, and
hunting in 19<sup>th</sup> century Texas! This program is open to all ages but
children must be accompanied by an adult. Dress appropriately for the season as
the presentation takes place in a period setting. Meet at the park visitors’

Painters, sketch artists and photographers alike are encouraged to visit the park and create their own piece representing Texas&rsquo; rich and diverse cultural and natural heritage.&nbsp; If you&rsquo;re not an artist come out and watch as local artists create from the heart.</p>
<p>Landscapes have a language of their own, expressing the soul of the things, <br /> lofty or humble, which constitute them, from the mighty peaks to the smallest of the <br /> tiny flowers hidden in the meadow's grass.&rdquo; &nbsp;&nbsp;~ Alexandria David-Neel</p>
<p>Please dress appropriately for the season as this is an outdoor event.&nbsp; All Visitors are welcome but small children must be accompanied by an adult.&nbsp; Accessible for the mobility impaired.
