Game Warden

Law Enforcement Off the Pavement
Caring deeply about the people and natural resources of Texas comes naturally to Texas game wardens. As commissioned peace officers, they lead the way in conservation enforcement, patrolling the lands and waterways of their communities and enforcing fishing, hunting and boating safety laws.
Texas game wardens also assist other law enforcement agencies with apprehending criminals; patrolling the Texas-Mexico border as part of the state’s homeland security initiative; investigating environmental crimes; and conducting search-and-rescue operations in the state’s bays, lakes and rivers.
When disasters strike, such as hurricanes and floods, wardens are at the forefront of rendering aid.
Texas game wardens approach law enforcement as a partnership with the public, through the long-established philosophy of Community Oriented Policing (COP). This philosophy promotes and supports organizational strategies to address the causes of unlawful activity through problems solving tactics and officer-community partnerships. The COP partnership engenders support for the protection of the state’s fish and wildlife resources and for public safety on our Texas waterways.
Furthermore, game wardens engage with and educate the public through extensive outreach programs.
