Clyde Spencer – Obituary and Assessment Call

Clyde SpencerClyde Spencer, 88 of Austin, TX, formerly of Liberty Hill, TX was called home on Saturday April 2, 2011. In his youth Clyde was song leader at the Liberty Hill Baptist Church and played football for Liberty Hill High school. Clyde served on the minesweeper U.S.S. Execute in the United States Navy during WW II, and was a member of the Naval Mine Warfare Association.

After the war Clyde moved to Austin where he met his wife of 63 years, Lucille. He started his 35-year career with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department as a Federal Aid Reimbursement Accountant. He served as both a Deacon and an Elder at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church where he was a member for 49 years.

Clyde is survived by his wife Lucille, daughter Brenda Wohlfarth and husband Gene, grandson Christian Harkins and fiancé Tori, granddaughter Carla Hadden and husband Nick, great granddaughter Piper, his adopted children, exchange students Hodaka Asai and Akiko (Mindy) Yokoyama, and adopted granddaughter Akari Yokoyama, of Japan.

He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, many other friends and relatives, and countless friends of Chris and Carla who also viewed him as "Papaw".

He was preceded in death by a daughter Elaine Kay, parents Vernon and Sula Spencer, brother Floyd and wife Texana, sister Margaret and husband Glen, sister Ruth and husband Herbert, brother V.C. and wife Frances, sister Mary Lea, and sister Ruby Jewel.

The family would like to express their gratitude to all of the staff at Seton Hospital's 6th floor North Wing, and to the staff at Christopher House for their loving care.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from four o'clock in the afternoon until six o'clock in the evening on Wednesday, the 6th of April at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, in Austin.

Funeral services will be conducted at Cook-Walden Funeral Home on the 7th of April at half past one o'clock in the afternoon. Graveside service will be held at half past three o'clock in the afternoon at the Lockhart City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Clyde to First Cumberland Presbyterian Church at 6800 Woodrow Ave. Austin, TX 78757. Condolences may be made to www.cook-walden.com

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Mutual Association (TPWD Mutual Association) regrets to inform you of the death of another of our members, Clyde Spencer .

Clyde became a member of the Texas Game and Fish Commission Mutual Association, later known as the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Mutual Association on May 3, 1956. He retained his membership up until his death on April 2, 2011.

Additional information on Mr. Clyde Spencer is on the reverse side of this assessment letter.

A check in the amount of $5,415.00 will be delivered to his wife, Lucille Spencer.

An assessment in the amount of $16.00 will be necessary to bring the policy fund back into balance to have payments on hand for two members in case of death. Please make this payment by May 16, 2011.
