Thomas Paul Hergotz – Obituary and Assessment Call

Thomas Paul HergotzCuero, Thomas Paul Hergotz, 63, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2007. He was born in Austin Tx., November 26, 1943 to William Albert and Emma Laake Hergotz.

Visitation will be Tuesday April 3, 2007, from 6 – 7:30 pm. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2007, 2 pm, at the Freund Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Gary S. McCormick officiating. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery

He graduated from Wm. B. Travis High School in 1961. After high school he enlisted in the US Naval Reserve, and served active duty aboard the USS Lowe. After his separation from duty in August, 1965, he worked for the Lower Colorado River Authority as a Jr. Accountant for a brief time. In 1966, he was hired by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept. as a Game Warden after completing Game Warden cadet training at Texas A&M University. He received an Associate of Science Degree in Law Enforcement in 1974. He worked as a State Game Warden in Galveston County, Bastrop County and DeWitt County. In 1995, Tommy was selected to receive the prestigious award as The Wildlife Officer of The Year for the Southeastern Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies. These agencies consist of sixteen southeastern states and Puerto Rico. He retired from the Tx Parks and Wildlife Dept. as Sergeant Game Warden. Later he worked briefly for DeWitt County as a Court Bailiff. He retained a commission as a Special Game Warden. He married Cindy Young on April 14, 1973.

He is survived by his wife 2 sons; Jeffrey Hergotz and Bryan Hergotz of Cuero, and a brother William “Bill” Charles Hergotz and his wife Sonya of Buda.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers John Braden, Glen Braden, Sam Center, Richard Gonzales, Daniel Kuecker, and Rex Mayes.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: all the Texas State Game Wardens and DeWitt County Peace Officers.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Mutual Association (TPWD Mutual Association) regrets to inform you of the death of another of our members, Thomas Paul Hergotz.

Tommy became a member of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Mutual Association on January 11, 1967. He retained his membership up until his death on April 1, 2007.

Additional information on Tommy is on the reverse side of this assessment letter.

A check in the amount of $3,590.00 was delivered to Tommy's wife, Cindy, on April 2, 2007.

An assessment in the amount of $10.00 will be necessary to bring the policy fund back into balance to have payments on hand for two members in case of death. Please make this payment by April 16, 2007.
