Commission Agenda Item No. 12
Action
Amendment to Artwork Approval
January 2001

I. DISCUSSION: Under the terms of the state artwork design and marketing contract with Collectors Covey for Departmental print programs, the Commission approves the artwork for the design of the stamps each year. Four prints were approved during the November Commission meeting. Due to an unexpected offer and purchase of the Nongame print by a Canadian publishing company, the use of the Long Billed Curlew artwork by Thomas Quinn has encountered a conflict with copyright privileges. In order to resolve this conflict, the artist has offered and provided a substitute print to Collectors Covey.

The artwork offered for fiscal year 2002 stamps consists of:

Print
Year
Artwork Subject Artist
2001 Waterfowl Snow Goose & Blue Goose John Dearman
2001 Turkey Rio Grande Turkey John Dearman
2001 Saltwater Redfish Diane Rome Peebles
2001 Nongame Long Billed Curlew Thomas Quinn
Recommended Substitution:
2001 Nongame Loggerhead Shrike Thomas Quinn

The substituted artwork will be available for Commission review. If the Commission finds the artwork satisfactory, the motion shown below is proposed for Commission consideration.

II. RECOMMENDATION: The staff recommends the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission adopt the following motion:

"The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission approves the amendment to artwork approval with the acceptance of the substitution of Nongame artwork for the print and stamp designs. The Executive Director is authorized to take the necessary steps to provide these stamps for sale to the public."
