TPWD Marine Enforcement Policy:

“To promote recreational water safety for persons and property in and connected with the use of all recreational water facilities in the state, to promote water safety in the operation and equipment of facilities, and to promote uniformity of laws relating to water safety.”

Texas Water Safety Act
Acts 1975, 64th Legislature

All game wardens in the state of Texas by virtue of their training and commission with TPWD are certified Marine Safety Enforcement Officers.

Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Law Enforcement Division also certifies Marine Safety Enforcement Officers (MSEO) throughout the state for enforcement of the Water Safety Act. Certified peace officers from other agencies must be MSEO certified through TPWD in order to enforce recreational boating safety laws on public waters in Texas and provisions of the Water Safety Act.

This partnership with other agencies is a valuable asset to both this agency and to the people of the state in promoting a safe recreational boating environment on our lakes, bays, rivers, and streams. It is through this partnership that laws relating to public safety are enforced consistently, provides a unified force multiplier for officer presence on the water, and ensures unilateral collaboration from one law enforcement agency to another.
