Houston Area Fishing Spots

Spots marked with (*) may receive stockings of rainbow trout in winter. Visit our trout stocking schedule for locations and dates. Most of the small lakes are Community Fishing Lakes and have special harvest regulations for catfish. Size limits, daily bag limits and gear restrictions for all sites can be found in our fishing regulations.

1 Mary Jo Peckham Park Pond, Katy Neighborhood Fishin'*

Site Information

This lake is a Neighborhood Fishin' site, receiving frequent stockings of channel catfish and rainbow trout. Bank and pier access, picnic tables, trails and restrooms. Recreation center also located within the park.

Driving Directions

Located at 5597 Gardenia Lane. From Houston take I-10 west to exit 742 to Katy-Ft. Bend County Road. Turn right on Katy-Ft. Bend to Franz Road. Turn left on Franz Road and go 1.1 miles to Avenue A. Turn right onto Avenue A and proceed straight into the park.

2 Bane Park Lake, Houston *

Site Information

Bank access, picnic tables and restrooms.

Driving Directions

From US 290, exit at Little York and go west about 1 mile. Park is at junction of West Little York and North Gressner roads.

3 Eisenhower Park Pond, Houston *

Site Information

Bank access; picnic tables in the park.

Driving Directions

Take Beltway 8 to Lake Houston parkway and exit east. Turn left on Aqueduct Road. Park is on the right side of the road.

4 Sheldon Children's Pond 1 and 2, Houston

Site Information

Excellent bank access. Restrooms and an Environmental Education Center are located in the park.

Driving Directions

Entrance to ponds is on Hwy. 90A between Beltway 8 and Sheldon Road.

5 Herman Brown Park Pond, Houston

Site Information

Bank access. The park has restrooms, picnic tables, a pavilion and foot paths.

Driving Directions

Take I-10 east from downtown Houston, cross Loop 610 and take the next exit (Mercury Drive). Go left on Mercury, which ends at the park. Follow road back and to the right to new parking area and pavilion. The lake trail is marked with a sign.

6 McGovern Lake, Houston *

Site Information

Bank and pier access. Restrooms, picnic tables, and paddleboats are available in the park.

7 Eldridge Park Pond, Sugar Land *

Site Information

Bank access. The park has restrooms, picnic tables and a pavilion.

Driving Directions

From I-10, take Hwy. 6 south to Sugar Land and turn left on Hwy. 90A. Go 1.9 miles and turn left on Eldridge Road. Go 2.25 miles, looko for park on left.

8 American Legion Park Pond, Missouri City *

Site Information

Bank and pier access. Picnic tables are available in the park.

Driving Directions

Pond is located at 4015 Lexington Drive, just west of FM 1092 between Alternate 90 (Main Street) and Cartwright Road (FM 3345).

9 Kitty Hollow Park Lake, Sugar Land

Site Information

Pier and bank access. There are restrooms, picnic tables, and a pavilion in the park.

Driving Directions

From I-10 west of Houston, take Hwy. 6 south through Missouri City to Fort Bend County. Park is located just past Lake Olympia Subdivision, on the left side of the road across from Sienna Pkwy.

10 Missouri City C.P.L.

Site Information

Pier and bank access. There are restrooms, picnic tables, and a pavilion in the park.

From I-10 west of Houston, take Hwy. 6 south to Missouri City. Turn left on Glen Lakes Lane and look for park entrance on the left.

11 Blue Ridge Park Pond, Missouri City

Site Information

Bank access, picnic tables, restrooms.

Driving Directions

From Beltway 8 south take S. Post Oak Rd. exit. Turn right on S. Post Oak to Court Rd. Turn right on Court Rd. to park entrance on the left. Park is in the corner of S. Post Oak and Court.

12 Tom Bass I, Houston Neighborhood Fishin'*

Site Information

This lake is a Neighborhood Fishin' site, receiving frequent stockings of channel catfish and rainbow trout. A nature trail, playgrounds, restrooms and picnic areas are available in the park.

Driving Directions

Located at 3452 Fellows Road. Heading south on Hwy. 288, exit Fellows Road. Go east 0.46 miles past 288 and Sam Houston Tollway intersection. Turn right into park and follow road to amphitheater. The lake is located next to amphitheater parking lot.

13 Tom Bass III, Houston *

Site Information

Bank and pier fishing. There are restrooms, picnic tables, volleyball courts and a pavilion in the park.

Located at 15108 Cullen Boulevard. Heading south on Hwy. 288, exit Fellows Road and go left. Turn right on Cullen to Tom Bass Park Area III on the right.

14 Burke-Crenshaw Lake, Pasadena *

Site Information

Driving Directions

Take Fuqua exit off I-45 and go east about 2 miles to Burke Road. Turn left and go 1 mile to park entrance on left.

15 Centennial Park Lake, Friendswood *

Site Information

From I-45 south (Gulf Freeway) take exit 23 to FM 518. Turn right on FM 518 and go 4.6 miles to Centennial Park on the left.

16 Challenger 7 Pond, Webster

Site Information

Bank access. The park has restrooms and picnic tables.

Driving Directions

From I-45, take the NASA 1/FM 528 exit and turn right. Go left on W. NASA 1 and look for Challenger Park on the left.

17 Carver Park Lake, Texas City

Site Information

Bank access. The park has restrooms, picnic tables, and a recreation center.

Driving Directions

From I-45, take FM 1765 exit (Texas Avenue) and go east. Turn left on Westward, then right on Park Avenue. Park entrance will be on the right.

18 Sylvan Beach, La Porte

Site Information

Galveston Bay. Bank and pier fishing, 1,234-ft pier has bait and concession stand with restrooms and telephone, pier and restrooms handicap accessible, park open 7 am to 10 pm, pier open 24 hours in summer, reduced hours in winter.

South on I-45 (or SH 146), exit and left ad Edgebrook Dr. (Fairmont Parkway), right at end of road on Bayshore Dr., park is on the left.

19 Texas City Dike

Site Information

Galveston Bay. Bank and wade fishing on both sides of Dike Road.

Driving Directions

From I-45 South, exit FM 1764 and go left to Texas City. Cross Bay Street to Texas City Dike Road.

20 61st Street Fishing Pier, Galveston

Site Information

Gulf of Mexico. Lighted pier, open 24 hours in summer, reduced hours in winter. Pier and restrooms are handicap accessible. Bait and snack bar available on site.

South on I-45, exit 61st St. in Galveston, right on 61st St., site is at end of road at Seawall Blvd.

21 Galveston Fishing Pier

Site Information

Gulf of Mexico. 1,320-ft lighted pier, open 24 hours. Top deck is handicap accessible. Bait and snack bar available on site.

South on I-45, exit 61st St. in Galveston, right on 61st St., right on Seawall Blvd, site is on left at 99th St.

22 Galveston Island State Park

Site Information

Gulf of Mexico, West Bay. Bank and wade fishing. Restrooms are handicap accessible. Gates are open 8 am to 10 pm, please check in at main office upon arrival.

Driving Directions

South on I-45, exit 61st St. in Galveston, right on 61st St., right on Seawall Blvd., go about 10 miles, park office is on left side of road.

23 Galveston Island Beaches

Site Information

Gulf of Mexico. Bank and wade fishing from beaches and jetties. Limited restroom facilities.

Driving Directions

South on I-45, exit 61st St. in Galveston, right on 61st St., right on Seawall Blvd., proceed west along beach.

24 Seawolf Park, Galveston

Site Information

Galveston Bay. LIghted pier and parking lot, open 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. Restrooms, showers, snacks. Pier and restrooms are ADA-accessible.

Driving Directions

Located on Pelican Island. From Houston go south on I-45, exit and left at Harborside Dr. in Galveston, left at bridge at Pelican Island Causeway, park is at end of road.

25 Galveston South Jetties

Site Information

Galveston Bay/Gulf of Mexico. Pass and gulf fishing.

Driving Directions

Go south on I-45, continue into Galveston (Broadway St.), left on Seawall Blvd., right at end of street onto Boddecker Dr.

26 Galveston North Jetties

Site Information

Galveston Bay/Gulf of Mexico. Pass and gulf fishing.

Driving Directions

Take I-45 south to Galveston, continue straight down Broadway until you reach the beach, turn left on Seawall Blvd, left on Ferry Road (two stop lights) to the landing, take free ferry to Bolivar Peninsula, go about two miles to North Jetty Road.

27 Rollover Pass

Site Information

Galveston Bay/Gulf of Mexico. Pass and gulf fishing.

Driving Directions

Take I-45 south to Galveston, continue straight down Broadway until you reach the beach, turn left on Seawall Blvd, left on Ferry Road (two stop lights) to the landing, take free ferry to Bolivar Peninsula, go about 20 miles to Rollover Pass.

28 Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge

Site Information

Galveston Bay. Bank and wade fishing. Restrooms at entrance, bring your own drinking water.

Driving Directions

Go east on I-10, right at the Anahuac/Hankamer exit, go south 2 miles to FM 562. Continue south on FM 562 for 8.3 miles to FM 1985, and 4 miles east to refuge entrance.
