ALPINE – Twenty-nine desert bighorn sheep bolted out of transport trailers and straight up into the Bofecillos Mountains along the Rio Grande at about 3 p.m. today. The 24 ewes and five rams were captured by helicopter at Elephant Mountain Wildlife Management Area this morning and moved to Big Bend Ranch State Park.
DALLAS — Since 2006, Dallas Safari Club (DSC) has granted more than $750,000 in funding for wildlife and habitat conservation, youth and public education, and hunter advocacy programs within the state of Texas.
AUSTIN – Since 1995 when Texas’ first spring eastern turkey hunting season was opened in Red River County, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has maintained a conservative approach — a 30-day season, mandatory check stations, one gobbler bag limit — to give the birds ample opportunity to establish themselves in new haunts. As turkey numbers have increased and flocks expand into new areas, the agency has steadily increased hunting opportunity by opening a spring season in 43 East Texas counties.

AUSTIN — Long-time Texas Parks and Wildlife Game Warden Brad Chappell has been recognized as 2010 Texas Midwest Officer of the Year by the Association of Midwest Fish and Game Law Enforcement Officers.
AUSTIN – Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) biologists are asking hunters and landowners for their support in contributing to this year’s Voluntary Mule Deer Check Stations. Voluntary check stations will be located in six counties in the Trans-Pecos region.
