ALPINE – Forty-six desert bighorn sheep bolted out of transport trailers and up into the Bofecillos Mountains along the Rio Grande this week. The 12 rams and 34 ewes were captured by helicopter at Elephant Mountain Wildlife Management Area and moved to Big Bend Ranch State Park on Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 21-22.
ALPINE – Twenty-nine desert bighorn sheep bolted out of transport trailers and straight up into the Bofecillos Mountains along the Rio Grande at about 3 p.m. today. The 24 ewes and five rams were captured by helicopter at Elephant Mountain Wildlife Management Area this morning and moved to Big Bend Ranch State Park.
ATHENS, Texas — Individuals or organizations that have made a lasting contribution to freshwater fishing in Texas may be nominated through February 28 for induction into the Texas Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame.
ALPINE – About 40 desert bighorn sheep will be captured at Elephant Mountain Wildlife Management Area using a helicopter and moved by trailer to Big Bend Ranch State Park the week of Dec. 20. It’s the latest phase of a multi-partner wildlife restoration project begun in 1954, and the first bighorn reintroduction at a Texas state park.
JASPER – Four new East Texas paddling trails in and around Martin Dies Jr. State Park will be dedicated at 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 16 to mark the latest entrants into the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department’s Texas Paddling Trails program that now includes 25 waterway trails.
PORT ARTHUR – Design work is underway to redevelop Sea Rim State Park whose facilities were damaged first by Hurricane Rita, rebuilt and again destroyed in September 2008 by Hurricane Ike before the park could reopen.

AUSTIN – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission will hold a special meeting at 9 a.m. Dec. 20 at Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Austin headquarters to consider two land acquisitions, one on the Devils River in Val Verde County and another near the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center in Athens.
ATHENS—The season’s first stocking of rainbow trout into the ponds and streams at the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) will take place December 1.
