The Great Texas Birding Classic

Outta-Sight Song Birder: Competition Rules

Please refer to the Official Tournament Rules for Birding Classic guidelines not covered below. The rules listed below have been modified to accommodate the needs dictated by the Outta-Sight Song Birder Tournament.

  1. Teams may bird a total of up to 12 hours (hours do not need to be consecutive) on their tournament day.
  2. Teams must use official Great Texas Birding Classic checklist and submit once completed.
  3. Teams may bird in only one section of the coast: Upper, Central, or Lower Texas coast, as defined by the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail. Teams are in competition with all other teams in the Outta-Sight Song Birder Tournament, regardless of time spent birding, tournament day or section of the coast birded.
  4. Participants: Teams must consist of three to five members. A team consists of members who are blind or visually impaired, with a maximum of one sighted person per team being permitted. If a sighted person is on the team, appropriate blindfolds must be used to restrict bird identification to sound-based identification only.
  5. Any number of non-birding participants and media personnel may accompany the team, but these participants may not assist the team in any way with the location or identification of birds.
  6. All teams, regardless of age, will compete equally. Teams can be mixed in age.
