TPWD Preparing for 4th Crab Trap Cleanup

AUSTIN, Texas — Hoping to add to the pile of more than 15,000 lost and abandoned crab traps hauled from Texas bays during the last three years, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department officials are gearing up for another round of cleanups, and this time the closed season is from Feb. 18-27. Weather-permitting, Feb. 19 is the day for the main volunteer cleanup effort.

TPWD Looking at Potential Expansion of Buck Restrictions

AUSTIN, Texas — Experimental buck deer harvest regulations in six- Post Oak Savannah counties are helping create a healthy deer population, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department biologists and affected landowners and hunters. Harvest pressure of young bucks has decreased significantly during the past 3 years, and the increase in mature bucks available for harvest has pleased many hunters.

Fourth Crab Trap Cleanup Coming Up; Louisiana Joins Effort

AUSTIN, Texas – Since 2002, scores of volunteers have gathered along the Texas coast on a Saturday morning in mid-February to remove 15,499 abandoned crab traps from Texas bays. Hoping to add to that pile, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department officials are gearing up for another round of cleanups Feb. 18-27.

‘Most Diverse Game Warden Class Ever’ Starts

AUSTIN, Texas – The 51st Game Warden Cadet Class, which reported for duty Jan. 2, is the most diverse group of game warden cadets the state has ever had.

Wardens Offer Tips to Avoid Serious Deer/Car Collisions

FORT WORTH – With rutting, or deer mating season and also hunting season, deer are moving about more than usual. And as a recent fatality in this area demonstrates, there is a greater risk of damage to your car, serious injury or even death from hitting a deer. Experts offer tips to avoid doing so, or at least tips that could help avoid a more serious crash.
