Ike Evacuees Wait Out Storm At Texas State Parks

AUSTIN, Texas — More than 5,000 people took refuge from Hurricane Ike at 59 different state parks across Texas. Most of them, more than 2,000, stayed at Garner, including many from the Houston-Galveston area who vacation at the park each year.

Game Warden Takes Storm Prep Personally as Neighbors Brace for Ike

ANAHUAC, Texas — Game Warden John Feist doesn’t call it community policing, but it probably fits the definition. As Hurricane Ike approached the upper Texas coast Friday afternoon, Feist made a 90-mile loop through the middle of Chambers County, checking on friends and neighbors.
