5-Year Texas State Parks Study Reveals Interesting User Insights

AUSTIN — The typical visitor to a Texas state park is a middle-aged white non-Hispanic from out of town traveling with a spouse or other family member, but no children, to camp, hike, relax or just enjoy the scenery. Those are just some of the results from a comprehensive statewide visitor survey conducted between 2002 and 2007 at 70 state parks, and whose results were recently compiled and analyzed by Sam Houston University.

Hunter Education Instructors Needed

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) will be conducting a free Hunter Education New Instructor Training Workshop March 27, 2010 in Tyler, Texas. Workshop will begin at 8:00am — 5:00pm at the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s East Texas Ecological Center  located at 11942 FM 848, Tyler 75707.

TPWD Seeks Input on Prospective List of Approved Exotic Aquatic Plants

AUSTIN — Attractive as ornamentals and functional in some applications, invasive aquatic plants can also pose a threat to the state’s natural resources. To provide appropriate opportunities for use of certain non-native aquatic plants and algae without risking impacts to the state’s natural resources, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is looking for help compiling a prospective list of exotics that could be allowed for sale in Texas.
