The Monarch Butterfly

Monarch Butterfly

Trivia

  • State Insect of Texas (named by the Legislature in 1995)
  • The world's only insect to make an annual migration, on a continental scale, to a handful of major overwintering colonies. Stray individuals can be seen much of the year across Texas, but the most spectacular migration occurs each fall (late Sept.-Oct.) in the western portion of Texas (the region bounded by IH-35 and Midland)
