Angling Opportunities
Kemp’s fish populations have been adversely affected by recent golden alga fish kills. White bass are abundant in the reservoir and provide a good fight. White crappie numbers are down. Channel, blue, and flathead catfish are present in good numbers and sizes.

Fishing Cover/Structure
Almost the entire lake shore is made up of large rock to cobble-size rock. Many points and dropoffs can be found. The Moonshine Bay area has many docks in the water, providing habitat for fish. At the back of Moonshine Bay, there is abundant dead standing timber. Other coves also have standing timber and submerged aquatic vegetation.
Tips & Tactics
White bass can be caught on slabs throughout the reservoir when golden alga blooms are not occurring. Crappie are found in low abundance in the upper part of the reservoir. Catfish are found throughout the reservoir, especially blue catfish around Rattlesnake Island and the west side channels and coves. For channel cats, fish prepared bait on mud bottoms. Fish live bait (small sunfish) for blue and flathead catfish around the old creek channels and drop-offs.
